Joint ICA Commission and OGC Workshop: OGC Standards for making geospatial data, maps and charts findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable

The Commission on SDI & Standards, and the Open Geospatial Consortium, are planning a joint pre-conference workshop on on the new OGC standards, to be held on 11 August 2018 at Colophon Room, SANBI, Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Cape Town.

Joint ICA Commission Workshop: Collaborative custodianship through collaborative cloud mapping – Challenges and opportunities

Two Commissions of the International Cartographic Association (ICA), namely the Commission on SDI & Standards, and the Commission on Map Production and Geoinformation Management, are planning a joint pre-conference workshop on collaborative custodianship and collaborative cloud mapping, to be held on 14-15 September 2018 at the University of Pretoria.

The liaison report to ISO/TC 211 was prepared by Serena Coetzee and presented by the Commission’s former chair, Antony Cooper, on 31.05.2018.

SDI Open 2017

In the context with the 28th International Cartographic Conference a pre-conference workshop on Spatial data infrastructures, standards, open source and open data for geospatial (SDI-Open 2017) was jointly organized by the Commission on SDI and Standards and the Commission on Open Source Geospatial Technologies 1-2 July 2017, George Washington University, Washington DC.

SDI Open 2015

The pre-conference workshop at IBGE in Rio de Janeiro, jointly organized by the Commission on Geoinformation Infrastructures and Standards, the Commission on Open Source Geospatial Technologies and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), on 20 and 21 August 2015 aimed to record examples of current SDI practice with an aim to identify benefits and challenges to implementing free and open source software for geospatial, geographic information standards and open (spatial) data in an SDI.

Approximately 20 people participated at the commission meeting. Under the guidance of the outgoing chair, Antony Cooper, the terms of Reference were discussed and approved.
